Seriously, what is wrong with you?

We get it, you hate Kinja and hate change. Now either contact IT with genuine criticism so they can work on improving it, get back to posting normal shit, or just fuck off to Autoblog so you can bitch about how awful redesigns are.

No, we can't go to Autoblog to bitch about redesigns.

Autoblog is for bitching about BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA and how anything car-related in the middle east is because THOSE BROWN ANIMALS HAVE SPENT OUR OIL MONEY!

Agree. My company is in IT and I see what goes into software design.

Could Gawker Media have purchased or built an enterprise-grade system with less bugs? Sure, but not at a price point that would work for its business model.

Software development is expensive. Gawker Media sites are free to users. Yes there are advertising dollars but they need to pay for other operating costs as well and can't be 100% dedicated to software development.

Kinja does its job pretty well considering all this. It will improve over time and have less bugs. Users complaining about changes in each iteration are silly. It's impossible to add features without making changes.

The improvements are rarely improvements, though, and features aren't really added all that often. It feels like change for the sake of change. I realize an IT department has to justify its existence, but just because it still works well enough and is still free does not a reason for doing something make.

When has Gawker IT ever cared about genuine criticism? We're talking about large philosophical issues here, not little niggles.

Plus, there's been a lot of specific, constructive criticism posted. It just happens to be laced with profanity.

I agree that sometimes the improvements don't seem like improvements. But my guess is that there is a reason behind all of them. Unless their management is just totally clueless they wouldn't make changes just for the sake of change.

Changes that may seem pointless to us may be helping their back-end folks be more efficient or may have other reasons for being made.

I'll buy that for the last big Kinja update; while it made things different for users (better in most ways), I think the big improvement was for the editors/writers and their ability to distribute/hijack info to/from the sub-blogs and all of that.

This one looks a lot like a user-oriented upgrade to me, though, and it's not off to a promising start.

Hopefully they can recover from the shaky start. If users submit useful feedback they can improve things.

I would love to get a behind the covers peek at how they manage their development and deployments.

This is the internet; you have to immediately discard anything someone with an MBA says.
